Olimert gets a light sentence

A Jerusalem district court fined former Prime Minister of Israel Ehud Olmert for nearly $20,000 and gave him one-year suspended jail sentence. The four year old corruption case had forced Olmert to sted down in 2008, cutting off peace talks with Palestinians and forcing an election that brought to power a right-wing coalition led by Benjamin Netanyahu. This light punishment opens the door for a political comeback for him. The former Premier was punished for charges of illigal accepting money from a US bussiness man and double-billing nonprofits for official travel.
